Cesta 5. maja (the 5h of May Road) connects various spots in Ajdovščina, both in the structural and functional sense – it links the town's arterial road to many of its other urban functions, including the bus station, city blocks from the 60's and 70's, bourgeois villas, the classicist city from the 19th century and a modernist part of the city.

An alley, the new layer of the Ajdovščina palimpsest, is a modern urbanistic feature that upgrades the identity of the spatial axis. Clearly delineated and divided in a way that connects the already existing ambients in both their functional and experiential senses.

Concept:

- PLANE

A uniformly paved surface marks a pedestrian area, in which all other traffic participants are subordinate. Carefully planned transverse "bays" across the alley expand its perception and functionality.

-RHYTHM

The rhythm of verticals along the main axis highlights the linear character of this public city space.

-MATRIX

Low trees are arranged in a rectangular grid along the alley. A new spatial feature supplements the alley's experiential space.

-EDGES

Low walls define a clear border and create social areas. This design feature connects many existing walls into a comprehensive unity.
