Our task in this project was to establish a green system of modernist city of Nova Gorica in Slovenia. As part of the establishment of green system it was necessary to locate an areas suitable for designing urban gardens. Suitable areas were then designed into parks that support establishement of urban gardens. My location is situated in the western part of the city, in a degraded area at the railway station. The design concept is resulting from the space itself. Railway tracks are preserved and become one of the major design elements. Old train wagons are transformed into greenhouses and can be moved along the tracks creating dynamic open space. The central axis remains degraded sandy area along the tracks that is left to natural succession. Here the water surfaces appear, which are part of the irrigation system and as a design element continue the designe language established by the railway tracks. East side of the park is most connected to the city itself and, therefore, the area is occupied by urban gardens and extensive fruit plantations. Old semicircular railway facility in the north is transformed in the covered market, where trade with urban garden products takes place. Next to it, an open air market is designed. Park in addition to gardening also offers tremendous opportunities for recreation and leisure, large open area in the middle is also suitable for various exhibitions and other events.
